We're taking trucks off Stoney Creek and Forest Road

The Minns Labor Government has been working hard to get trucks off Stoney Creek and Forest Road and back onto the M5 East and M8 motorways, with a tough new scheme that aims to get up to 1,900 trucks a day off our local roads.

This problem was created by the former Liberal Government in 2020 when they sold the M5 East freeway to private toll companies, and locked NSW taxpayers into contracts with private toll companies until 2060.

This drove trucks off the M5 East and back onto our local roads, resulting in a significant increase in heavy vehicle noise, exhaust, congestion and danger to residents in Bexley, Arncliffe and Beverly Hills.

The Stoney Creek Road Corridor Scheme will be similar to the successful NorthConnex scheme and designed in consultation with industry and community.

The scheme will mandate that any heavy vehicle that could use the motorway for through journeys, must use the motorway network. Cameras will be installed along the corridor and trucks that should be on the motorway will be heavily fined.

This is just the start, however it is an important step in our plan to ease congestion so you can spend less time on the road and more time with your family.
