Big Community Win!

After 12 years of the previous liberal government, our area was ignored and forced to put up with reckless driving and excessive noise. Local residents and businesses have had enough.

That's why the Minns Labor Government is delivering safety improvements to Bay Street.

We are installing traffic calming devices, and upgrading the pedestrian crossing making it safer for all road users.

This project will improve the safety of pedestrians and reduce the likelihood of anti-social driving behaviour occurring on Bay Street. To improve pedestrian and customer safety we will:

• construct a raised threshold on both approaches to the existing mid-block signalised crossing
• extend the central median along Bay Street between the mid-block signalised crossing and Moate Avenue to prevent vehicle turning movements
• widen the kerb on the northern side of Bay Street to shorten the pedestrian crossing distance at the existing mid-block signalised crossing, so people crossing the road are more visible to drivers. Pedestrians will also have a better view of approaching vehicles

This is in addition to the noise cameras we installed last year allowing us to crack down on reckless drivers.

We are committed to finding solutions that make our area safer, and this is all part of our plan to build a better community for all of us.
